EduTalks@Council of Europe: Teaching and Learning with and about AI
The Council of Europe invites all researchers, professionals and policy authorities to reflect and discuss artificial intelligence (AI) and education. On Thursday, 19th of October 2023, at 17:00 CEST, the EduTalk@Council of Europe is focusing the use of AI in education to support teaching and learning. The online event in Zoom requires free registration before and will also introduce the latest Council of Europe study on AI and education.
The first speech by Christian M. Stracke from the University of Bonn will raise and debate key ethical questions for using AI in education: „AI is challenging and changing education like no other means before“, emphasizes the renowned AI researcher and teacher and founder of the European Network on Ethical Use of AI. „AI can and should be used to strengthen human rights, democracy and rules of law instead of supporting biases, fake news and inequity“, he demands.
Afterwards, Arjana Blazic, experienced educator, teacher trainer and consultant from Croatia, and Francisco Bellas, full professor at the University of Coruña, will present and argue potential applications of AI in teaching and learning. Lidija Kralj, international analyst and expert in data and AI in education from Croatia, accounts for the introduction and moderation of the discussions during the upcoming EduTalk@Council of Europe.
The open EduTalk will delve into the potential applications of AI in supporting teaching and learning. It will scrutinize the challenges and benefits from both the learner and teacher perspectives. Additionally, the event will emphasize the prerequisites that must be met before introducing an AI-enabled technology and system in the classroom, with a particular focus on upholding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
The event is organized by the Council of Europe’s Department of Education that supports all European Member States in developing their policies, legislation and practices with a view to promoting democratic, quality, inclusive and corruption-free education systems, taking into account the Council of Europe’s legal and policy instruments, guidelines, tools and resources.
