Arbeitspapier Nr. 87: Wie KI Studium und Lehre verändert

Mit der explorativen Studie „KI in Studium und Lehre – Use-Cases und Gelingensbedingungen“ legt das HIS-Institut für Hochschulentwicklung e. V. (HIS-HE) im Auftrag des Hochschulforums Digitalisierung eine systematische Analyse von Use-Cases von generativen KI-Tools an deutschsprachigen Hochschulen vor. Die Untersuchung dokumentiert vielfältige Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und zeigt, unter welchen Bedingungen der Einsatz generativer KI erfolgreich gelingt. Die Ergebnisse machen deutlich: Der KI-Einsatz an Hochschulen bedient ein breites Anwendungsspektrum und eröffnet neue Spielräume für Lehre, Lernen, Support und Beratung.

Digital and intellectual sovereignty in the age of AI: An assessment for the higher education sector

To what extent can universities still be considered digitally sovereign in the age of AI? How dependent are they on commercial AI providers, and what can they shape themselves? And: do universities also need to take language models into their own hands to ensure independent scientific thinking? Dr. Peter Salden from the Centre for Science Didactics at Ruhr University Bochum provides an overview and assesses the current situation. The text was written on the basis of his contribution to the expert hearing Digital Sovereignty, which was Hochschulforum Digitalisierung organized in Cologne in December 2024.

Student use of AI tools in everyday university life: continuities and changes

Unfortunately, the student perspective is often neglected in the discussion about the use of AI tools at universities. But do students even want to use ChatGPT? What opportunities and risks do they see in the use of generative AI? Last winter, Timucin Cicek, Prof. Dr. Tobias Seidl and Prof. Cornelia Vonhof from Stuttgart Media University published key findings from a student survey on the use of AI tools in the HFD blog post "Hey ChatGPT, can you help me?". Now they continue with surprising answers to the question of what continuities and changes they observed.
