The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung was initiated by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, the CHE Centre for Higher Education and the German Rectors’ Conference.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research acts as the sponsor of the Higher Education Forum.

Initiators:

The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft is a joint initiative of the business community. 3,000 companies, business associations, foundations and private individuals are united in it. It is committed to improving the German education and research landscape in the long term. To this end, it promotes universities and research institutes, supports talented individuals, analyzes the science system and derives recommendations for policymakers and industry.

The German Rectors’ Conference is the voluntary association of state and state-recognized universities and higher education institutions in Germany. It currently has 267 member universities. More than 94 percent of all students in Germany are enrolled in them. The HRK is the voice of the universities vis-à-vis politics and the public and the forum for the joint opinion-forming process of the universities.

The CHE Centre for Higher Education is supported by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Foundation for the Promotion of the German Rectors’ Conference. CHE is committed to a changeable science system that offers optimal and differentiated opportunities for development under changing conditions to all those who want to participate in and benefit from it.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research promotes education at all stages of the life course. Although higher education is primarily the responsibility of the states, the federal government also makes important contributions in this area. In addition, the German government has launched the High-Tech Strategy: Germany is to become a pioneer in scientific and technological solutions for the challenges of the future.
