Interoperability

Interoperability is crucial for universities to be able to collaborate digitally, facilitate student mobility and implement future-oriented educational offers across Europe.
With Working Paper No. 72 “Interoperability in Higher Education”, Hochschulforum Digitalisierung offers an analysis and concrete recommendations on how universities in Germany can make digital cooperation and data exchange future-proof. The most important findings from this study have been directly incorporated into the development of the EuropeanHigher Education Interoperability Framework(HEIF), which provides universities throughout Europe with practical assistance in the recognition of academic achievements, the exchange of data and the implementation of joint educational offers.
Interoperability is much more than a technical issue: it is crucial to how flexible, networked and innovative universities can work in the future. This is why the HFD provides universities with targeted support for implementation – for example in the peer-to-peer consulting program 2025, in which the University of Duisburg-Essen (AURORA Alliance) was advised on strategic and practical issues. As a driving force, the HFD supports the digital transformation and advocates open, application-oriented solutions that strengthen the European Higher Education Area.
