Examples of good practice in the HFD showroom

The Institute for Technical Education and Higher Education Didactics at the Hamburg University of Technology, together with the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung, has developed a practical examples database that makes good practice examples of digital university teaching in Germany visible in a showroom based on their strategic, structural and cultural objectives.

You can get to the showroomhere.

The goal of the HFD Showroom is to provide universities with points of reference regarding their strategic development of teaching in the digital age. To this end, representatives of the TU Hamburg were commissioned by the HFD to identify and develop examples of good practice at the level of strategic university development in the subject area of teaching.

Two goals guided our actions in this regard:

  • Research of examples of good practice at German universities of different types and sizes in different federal states.
  • Media presentation of these examples of good practice

Developing examples of good practice for universities is a challenge in that the context of a university can have a significant influence on the transfer and acceptance of approaches to action. Accordingly, the examples should not be understood as a reflection of the complex reality of a university, but rather as a contextual approach intended to serve as inspiration. Therefore, for the research of the examples, the theoretical approach of the “Munich School” was used, which combines approaches of organizational theory, psychology and sociology in order to understand complex phenomena. Here, strategic measures and developments are considered with regard to the interaction of strategy, structure, culture and individuals. The three constructs strategy – structure – culture form the theoretical framework for structuring these examples for the showroom (cf. https://hochschulforumdigitalisierung. de/de/dimensionen-des-digitalen-wandels). Currently, 19 examples of good practice are presented in the database.

Interlocking fields of action and dimensions in the strategy development of universities in digital times

The aim is to build up a comprehensive database of examples of good practice in the interplay of strategic, structural and cultural aspects and to make it accessible to all. It is intended to provide inspiration and ideas on how universities can actively shape organizational development processes in digital times.

Partner of the HFD Showroom: TU Hamburg, Institute for Technical Education and University Didactics

You are welcome to suggest good practice examples from your own university that you think are models in the 14 fields of action for the HFD Showroom. Please make sure that your example is well documented (e.g. on your website or in publications) so that others can understand your approach and thus the context of your example.

If you have any questions regarding the location of your example in the dimensions of strategy, structure and culture, please feel free to contact Dr. Tina Ladwig(tina.ladwig@tuhh.de).

The database is continuously updated and supplemented – we are always happy to receive your submissions!
