Bologna Digital 2020 – Harnessing the potential of digitalisation in the European Higher Education Area

On December 14th 2018, Hochschulforum Digitalisierung hosted an international expert workshop on ‘Bologna Digital 2020’ in Berlin. In the next phase the participants will continue to work together to formulate a white paper for a Bologna Process, which fully harnesses the potential of digitalisation to improving teaching and learning in the EHEA.

Prof. Dr. Sylvester Arnab holds a professorship in game science at Coventry University, where he investigates the use of games, gamification and serious games in teaching and learning. He is co-initiator of the Disruptive Media Learning LAB and gave a keynote on innovative teaching and learning experiences through research and creative practices during our Summer School 2018. We had the chance to interview Sylvester during the Summer School.

“Existing education models are inefficient” – Interview with Bror Saxberg

Dr Bror Saxberg is Vice President, Learning Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), a philanthrophic organisation that aims at improving education and science. Bror Saxberg is responsible for CZI’s thinking about how to expand and apply learning science results and good learning measurement practice at scale to real-world learning situations across the full span of learning. Saxberg most recently served as Chief Learning Officer at Kaplan, Inc. where he was responsible for the research and application of innovative evidence-based learning strategies, technologies, and products across Kaplan’s full range of educational services offerings. Saxberg received an Honors BA in Mathematics and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, an MA in mathematics from Oxford University, a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT, and an MD from Harvard Medical School.

From 27th to 30th of June students from all over Europe took part in the Workshop "Reinventing education in the digital era" and the GLC Summit. Within this context, several students interviewed participants of the summit. Isabell Fries and Florian Dercks talked to Kati Tiainen. Kati Tiainen has a Master of Education from the University of Helsinki. In 2004 she began to work for Microsoft as Academic Program Manager. Now she is Digital Learning and Strategy Director and responsable for Microsoft education business in Central and Eastern Europe.
