Strategies for Digitisation in Studies and Teaching

With the aim of jointly establishing strategies for digitisation in studies and teaching, the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD) bundles a variety of measures aimed at university management and all status groups at universities involved in the strategy and implementation process. In this way we contribute to the strategic anchoring and further development of the topic "digitisation of studies and teaching" at universities. The individual programmes and activities of the HFD on this topic are briefly presented here.

Peer-to-peer strategy consulting on digitisation in studying and teaching

Since 2017, peer-to-peer strategy consulting on digitisation in studying and teaching has been an important pillar in the services offered by the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung. The Peer-to-Peer Strategy Consulting is aimed at university management to initiate strategic processes for digitisation in teaching and learning. However, the instrument aims to take all status groups along and actively involve them in the strategy and implementation process. Further information on peer-to-peer strategy consulting can be found here.

HFDlead

The HFDlead - our new network on strategy & digitisation - connects university managements across different universities with a cross-mentoring offer. The one-year programme enables tandem teams to exchange ideas and information on strategy development in the digital age in a targeted and intensive manner.

After a successful pilot phase of the HFDlead network in 2019/2020, the HFDlead program will enter a second round. Main program of the network is a Peer-to-Peer Cross-Tandem offer. This enables us to actively network university management across organisations through a targeted application and matching process. With a peer-to-peer approach, university managements in tandem teams benefit from each other's experience in strategy development processes around topics related to digitisation in studies and teaching. The tandem process is embedded in a structured framework programme. This includes a kick-off event, an online meeting, a 1.5-day retreat and a closing event spread over the programme year. HFD Showroom

The Institute for Technical Education and Higher Education Didactics at the Hamburg University of Technology, together with the HFD, has developed a database of practical examples which makes good practice examples of digital university teaching in Germany visible in a showroom based on their strategic, structural and cultural objectives.

The aim of the HFD showroom is to offer universities points of orientation with regard to their strategic development of teaching in the digital age. For this purpose, representatives of the TU Hamburg identified and developed examples of good practice on behalf of the HFD at the level of strategic university development in the field of teaching.

Two goals were the guiding principles for action:

  • Research of examples of good practice at German universities of different types and sizes in different federal states
  • Media coverage of these examples of good practice

You can find the Showroom on this Link.

Further information on the HFD showroom can be found here in German language.

Strategy-Conferences

The activities of the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung in the area of strategy also include the annual strategy conferences. These bring together current findings and projects from the universities. In addition, the conferences for universities of applied sciences provide an opportunity for peer-to-peer consulting to exchange ideas, network and share their findings from the consulting process with the university community. Here you will find an overview of the event in German language.

Strategies Beyond Borders 2019

The last strategy conference took place from 9 to 10 December 2019 under the motto "Strategies Beyond Borders - Transforming Higher Education in a Digital Age". Together with the DAAD, the HFD invited to an internationally oriented conference in Berlin, which was followed by an equally diverse audience. Over the course of two days, the main focus was on strategy formation and processes, but there was also room for teaching innovations, projects on interoperability and student perspectives. Various formats of presentations and workshops, live demos and poster sessions were offered, which contributed to an open and relaxed atmosphere. Here you can read the event review in English.

Publications

In addition, independent studies on the topic of strategy-making are carried out in cooperation with selected experts with the aim of identifying overarching strategies and fields of action for the strategic debate on digitisation in teaching and learning.

The "Strategy" dossier provides an overview of HFD publications on the topics of "strategy formation and development". These are mostly in German language. Here you can access the dossier.
