The University:Future Festival breaks new ground as the first digital festival for higher education in Germany. Since the beginning of 2020, the world of higher education has been turned upside down. Technology and innovative concepts of teaching have become an essential part of everyday university life. This is what motivates us for the three-day festival: a look back at the digital summer semester 2020 – and even more a look ahead to the future of higher education.
Attendance of the festival is free.
From 6 to 8 October 2020 the University:Future Festival will bring together teachers, students, university management and other stakeholders from universities, politics and society. We will create a virtual space for exchange on higher education. The festival consists of three programme days:
BarCamp:Day (Tuesday, 06.10.): In the open BarCamp format, participants develop the agenda of the day themselves.
Conference:Day (Wednesday, 07.10.): In parallel live streams, German and international experts will share their expertise about higher education after 2020.
Workshops:Day (Thursday, 08.10.): In longer workshops, participants collaborate and learn from each other.
The European Commission is organising a global education hackathon for the second time from 12 to 13 November 2020. The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung is one of the partners of the hackathon together with the BMBF and the DAAD. The Main Stage Event in Berlin is organized by HFD, DAAD and TU Berlin. Currently hosts for local (digital, blended and analog) hackathons are being sought.

At our annual strategy conferences, we bring together all current findings and projects from the universities. The conferences additionally offer for universities of peer-to-peer strategy consulting the opportunity to exchange, network and share their findings from the consulting process with the community.

The strategy conference was held under the motto "Strategies Beyond Borders - Transforming Higher Education in a Digital Age" from December 9 to 10, 2019. Together with the DAAD, the Higher Education Forum invited to an internationally oriented conference in Berlin. Over two days, the conference focused on strategy formation and processes, as well as on teaching innovations, projects on interoperability and student perspectives. Various formats of presentations and workshops, live demos and poster sessions were offered.
As part of the theme week "Shaping the Digital Turn", representatives of German universities met in the Quadriga Forum on September 24, 2018 to discuss the central questions on how to strategically shape study and teaching in the digital age. In various workshops, the event offered participants the opportunity to discuss their experiences in developing and implementing a strategy for digital teaching and learning.
On 20 March 2018, the Higher Education Forum offered a strategy workshop for representatives of universities that are still in the early stages of strategically developing the opportunities of digital change for teaching. During the workshop, participants exchanged their views on strategic profile-building options, communication processes and structural formats for institutional development.
Under the title "Strategic development of higher education teaching in the digital age", participants had the opportunity to discuss their experiences in developing and implementing a strategy for digital teaching and learning in various workshops. The conference also offered a wide range of informal exchange opportunities.
